The price of an automatic pool cover depends on the complete installation. Pool dimensions, slat material, the position of the roller and any preparation work all affect the quote. A price for the cover alone does not tell you the cost of a working system.

This guide explains what to check before requesting a quote. It does not give a standard price or a price range: the pool and the work required must be assessed first. It covers automatic slatted pool covers, rather than telescopic enclosures or walk-on decks.

What affects the price of an automatic pool cover?

Pool dimensions and shape

The length, width and shape of the pool affect the cover design. Steps, curves, changes in width and waterline details can also affect the solution. Approximate measurements help with an initial discussion, but final dimensions and suitability need to be checked before ordering.

Slat material and finish

PVC and polycarbonate are different options. Compare the specified material, finish and model, together with the manufacturer's care requirements. Do not assume that a colour or a photograph identifies the material. Our PVC and polycarbonate guide explains the main points to discuss.

Roller position and installation type

An above-pool mechanism and a system integrated into the pool need different space and preparation. The roller, motor, supports and controls must suit the selected design. Review the cover materials and installation options with the available space in mind.

Preparation work and access

A new pool can allow space for the system from the design stage. An existing pool may need changes before a cover can be fitted. Ask whether the proposal includes any required building work, electrical preparation, changes to the pool surround and making good afterwards. Access for delivery and installation also needs to be checked.

What should a written quote include?

Ask for a clear description of the equipment and work. These items are a checklist to confirm with the supplier; they are not a promise that every item is included in every quote.

  • The pool dimensions and assumptions used to prepare the proposal.
  • The cover model, slat material, finish, motor and control system.
  • The roller position, supports and any housing or integration work.
  • Delivery, installation, setup and instructions for use.
  • Any building or electrical work, who will do it and what is excluded.
  • The total payable, the applicable taxes and any separate charges.
  • The proposed schedule, payment terms, warranty conditions and quote validity.
  • The recommended maintenance, access for servicing and any separately priced care plan.

How to compare two proposals

Check that both proposals cover the same pool and the same scope of work. A lower total can reflect a different material, installation type or excluded preparation work. Ask for unclear items to be explained in writing before comparing totals.

Keep installation cost separate from future running and maintenance costs. A cover can help reduce evaporation and heat loss when used correctly, but savings depend on the pool, weather, heating and use. Do not base a purchase on a guaranteed payback period without evidence for your pool. See our cover maintenance guide for care considerations.

What to send for an initial assessment

  • The town and location of the pool.
  • Approximate length, width and shape, plus plans if available.
  • Photos of the water, steps, pool edges and space around the pool.
  • Whether this is a new pool, a renovation or an existing installation.
  • How you use the pool, your preferred finish and any access limits.

Photos help explain the setting. They do not replace a technical assessment. You can attach photos or plans to our quote enquiry form. For local information, see our services in Málaga and the Costa del Sol and Madrid; confirm availability for your address with the team.

Common pricing questions

Can I compare covers by price per square metre?

That figure alone does not describe a complete installation. The motor, roller, controls, access and preparation work must also be accounted for. Compare the full written scope and total.

Can I get a quote for an existing pool?

Send its dimensions and photos so the team can review the options. Suitability and the work needed depend on the pool and the space available.

Is maintenance included in the installation price?

Check the proposal. Ask what care is required, what the installation includes and which future visits or repairs would be charged separately.
